Spring Stylin’ and Profilin’

Last week I mentioned that I was challenging myself to a spring makeover in the family room, dining room, and kitchen for under $300.00.  That is a tall order for a three room TOTAL makeover.  I started with the entertainment center.  I have been pondering how to style the piers on this bad boy for months.  I have kind of stuck things in there, moved things around, left crap laying there because I’d given up.

It was a hot mess.

I took everything out.  I cleaned it.  It was dusty.

I would like to take this time to say that I REALLY wanted a cream entertainment center.  Everywhere I went there were no cream entertainment centers.  I should have held out.  This bad boy is SO dark that sometimes it feels like the black hole in the room.   Not to mention it was super expensive and y’all know how I love to be cheap.  I am a little embarassed sometimes when I look at it.   I do love the way it looks empty though.

I took everything out and then spread out my options.  I stole stuff from other rooms, and got a few new things from my old friend TJMaxx.

Here is where I ended up:

Girl lookatthat Scooottie…he works out.

The clock was a whopping $12.99 and the green metal basket was $4.99, everything else I already had.  I am thinking the white platter needs a vinyl number “4″.  Josh’s birthday and my birthday both on the 4th, we need to represent.

Over to the other side.  I stole the bookends from Willows room.  She wasn’t using them.  The Ralph Lauren ceramic container in the middle was on clearance for $5.00.  Everything else I had lying around.  The only thing left to do is put a picture or graphic in the picture frame.  I am undecided about where to go with it.

There’s a little sneak peek of some other great stuff I picked up on the chair.  Total right now I am at $22.98 for my $300.00 challenge.  I am so happy the styling is done, it has been plaguing me for months.

Now I am going to find a way to strap my baby to my body because that is the only thing she likes.  I promise I haven’t thought of painters tape.  For those of you who may be new to GFS that is my usual modus operandi for everything.  It’s hard to hold a baby and do the following things:

  1. Type on a computer
  2. Do the dishes
  3. Cook dinner
  4. Do anything but sit on the couch and watch tv
  5. Paint
  6. Decorate
  7. Shower
  8. Vacuum
  9. Clean the pantry

I am LOVIN’ that clock! You are off to a great start on your makeover!

  3. Your cabinetry is beautiful! I like the gorgeous coloring of the wood. I think you did a great job of re-doing your decorations! That’s the fun part of something like this- you can swing the style back and forth! I just recently picked up a metal basket and it happens to be identical to your little green one except in color! I am constantly moving my deco items around. Sometimes you just get tired of looking at the same old thing!

I think you did a great job using items that will show up against the dark wood. My wall unit is in my great room and I have cherry kitchen cabinets so I had to get something dark too. My stuff just gets swallowed up and it’s always dusty. I think I will try what you did. Heirloom white spray paint to the rescue!

  5. Very pretty, Amy! I love that clock. You could go to the Graphics Fairy blog and print out one of her bird images. It would go great and tie in with your other birds on display.

Visiting from Met Monday : )
