Front Porch Update: Part 2

I shared with you all how we quickly updated our front porch last week.  Y’all know I can’t stop at just a quick little update, so I started brainstorming.

Our porch is really nice and wide.  For the most part you can even sit out there when it is raining.  Despite have the rocking chairs out there, we never really used the front porch.  I had always intended to buy some tables to put out there for drinks and other stuff that you may want to set on a solid surface.  I just never got around to it.

Have I mentioned that our house is 1588 sq. ft. ?  Have I mentioned that we are packed in here like sardines?

I never thought of the front porch as an option for expanding our living space until last week when we started cleaning it up.  It is beautiful here in coastal NC at least 9 months out of the year, and we love to be outside, so why not create some living space out there?

After we moved the outdoor rug and created a new seating area for the rocking chairs, it was clear that we needed some solid surfaces place drinks, cards, food, etc.   My first stop is always Lejeune Yard Sales, a local online Craigslist-ish site.

I found EXACTLY what I was looking for.

Check out that coffee table.  I picked it up for $50.00!  I am going to paint it with outdoor paint and seal it.  Not much rain lands on the front porch but I really want it to last.  It is slightly higher than a normal coffee table which makes it perfect for the seat height of the rocking chairs.

Let us also take a moment to check out that beautiful 11-year-old Cocker Spaniel.

Next, I headed out to our local Thrift Store for a side table.  I found this one hanging out under their covered portico.  I picked it up for $10.00!  It is pretty outdated but I think it will look good with a few coats of paint.

Here is a before and “so far” view:

Where else are we going with this?

We are hanging outdoor curtains, replacing the light fixture, and fixing the steps.

I will another update for you soon.  Until then, we will be sitting out there on Sunday afternoons sipping tea and playing Skip Bo.

  1. Your porch looks great! All of my side tables on our porch are garage sale finds that were painted to match! When you get a chance, stop by and look at my outdoor spaces. Blessings, Tammy

It’s going to be so nice when you’re done! How about a ceiling fan? Would that add to the ambiance? I can’t wait to see your pictures when it’s all in place.
